Warm greetings from Shiga Prefecture, the State of Michigan’s Sister-State in Japan for nearly 50 years!
　滋賀県から心をこめてご案内を申し上げます。滋賀県は、日本におけるミシガン州の姉妹都市として約50年を迎えました。
　
　Perhaps you may be familiar with the famous Omi beef and Omi rice, both from Shiga. But, Shiga is also known for its tea production, which is believed to have begun 1,200 years ago. In fact, Shiga is sometimes called “the birthplace of Japanese tea.” The climate and land in the region are well-suited for growing high quality tea plants.
　おそらく皆様は有名な近江牛や近江米に親しまれていると思いますが、それらは滋賀県産です。しかし、滋賀県は茶の産地としても知られており、それは1200年前に始まったと伝えられています。実際、滋賀県は時として日本茶の発祥地と言われることもあります。この地域の気候と土地は、高級な茶の栽培に最適なのです。
　
　On November 3rd, representatives from six Shiga tea companies will be in Detroit to showcase their products to the local food industry. We invite you to join us to learn more about Japanese tea in general and Shiga tea products particularly. Taste and compare!
　11月3日、滋賀の6茶業者が参加し、デトロイト地域の食に関わる事業者に対して商品を披露します。私達は、ここに皆様をご招待します。ご参加されることで、一般的な日本茶はもとより、特徴的な滋賀県の茶商品に関して、よく学んでもらえることでしょう。味わいを比べてみて下さい。
